Carla 6 2021

Carla 6 comes from the desire of Giampaolo and his friend and advisor Stephane Derenouncourt to compete and collide with a vine among the most difficult and unruly: the Sangiovese. Coming exclusively from vineyard No. 6: a unique substrate of gray schist and sand, which gives the wine great minerality and splendid notes of graphite. A pure Sangiovese, vinified and aged individually in French oak tonneaux.

The 2021 vintage began with a mild, dry winter. Above-average temperatures led to a potentially risky early budbreak, followed by a sudden drop in temperatures that caused some damage to the young shoots.
Spring was then characterised by abundant rainfall, while temperatures gradually increased through to mid-June. The exceptionally hot and dry summer ensured balanced vegetative growth and healthy cluster development, laying the foundations for a harvest of grapes with remarkable polyphenolic richness.
The grapes were harvested on 9 October, the latest harvest date in the history of the Carla 6 project.

The 2021 vintage was vinified in stainless steel tanks following an exceptionally rigorous and meticulous selection of both clusters and individual berries on two sorting tables.
The wine was subsequently aged in French oak tonneaux, 30% of which were new. Its ageing continued for a further six months in a concrete tank before bottling in July 2023.
The 2021 vintage yielded approximately 4,000 bottles.
