Giorgio Primo 2009
The “Grand Vin” born from the great passion for Bordeaux vines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, carefully selected and coming from single parcels of clayey and shale soils strongly rich in stone. It represents the highest territorial expression of the company.
THE 2009 GROWING SEASON
60% Cabernet Sauvignon
35% Merlot
5% Petit Verdot
The weather of 2009 was characterized by frequent rains that fell throughout the winter and spring until the first week of May. This phenomenon, accompanied by lower than the average seasonal temperatures, caused a slight delay of the fruit setting. However this allowed for a good accumulation of water in the soil. This resource was essential during the summer months so that the maturation of
the grapes was not compromised. Following the sporadic rains in July, the prevalence of dry winds of the north during the summer months allowed the plants to recover quickly from the delay in ripening.
The 2009 vintage produced around 16,000 bottles of 750 ml.
WINEMAKING
Due to the rainy days during the harvest period, it was possible to wait for the perfect ripening of the grapes at the same time the day-night temperature fluctuation ensured the smooth developing of the plant physiology. We can consider the year 2009 one of the best for the climatic characteristics and the optimum level of ripeness of the grapes The successive drawing off directly from the vats to new French Oak barriques is followed by an 18 month maturation period during which continual sensory tastings and analysis are performed to evaluate the evolution of the wines.
The entire production was bottled in one session in the beginning of June 2011.
