Giorgio Primo 2017

The “Grand Vin”, born from a deep passion for Bordeaux grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot are meticulously selected from individual plots characterised by clay- and schist-rich soils with a high mineral content. It represents the estate’s most prestigious and authentic expression of its unique terroir.

The 2017 vintage began with an exceptionally mild winter, with temperatures more than two degrees above the seasonal average and very limited rainfall. These conditions continued into spring, bringing budbreak forward by approximately two weeks. Unfortunately, a late frost damaged some of the lower-lying sections of several vineyard plots.
Rainfall in early May provided essential hydration to the soil, helping the vines withstand the sudden rise in temperatures during June and July. Throughout the summer, it was crucial to minimise soil dehydration and preserve as much moisture as possible, supporting steady vegetative growth. Rainfall on 10 August and again in early September brought further welcome hydration following the hot and dry conditions of the preceding months.

The harvest began early with the first Merlot grapes and continued until the final week of September under warm, sunny conditions. Around the middle of the month, rainfall finally brought cooler temperatures, creating excellent conditions for the later-ripening grape varieties.

The 2017 vintage yielded approximately 9,000 750 ml bottles.

Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for approximately 30 days, with frequent punch-downs and pump-overs to achieve a rich extraction of polyphenols. The entire process was closely monitored through daily checks and tastings.

The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barriques, 50% of which were new.

Bottling took place in September 2019.
