Giorgio Primo 2020
The “Grand Vin”, born from a deep passion for Bordeaux grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot are meticulously selected from individual plots characterised by clay- and schist-rich soils with a high mineral content. It represents the estate’s most prestigious and authentic expression of its unique terroir.
2020 VINTAGE
75% Cabernet Sauvignon
15% Merlot
10% Petit Verdot
The 2020 vintage began with a relatively mild winter, which led to a slightly earlier budbreak. Spring was cool and rainy, partially slowing vegetative growth while ensuring a regular flowering period. Summer arrived in late June, bringing warm, sunny days, followed by scattered rainfall in July that provided welcome relief and hydration to the vines, allowing for balanced ripening and the onset of veraison.
September brought cooler temperatures and light rainfall, encouraging us to wait patiently for the grapes to reach their ideal level of ripeness. For Merlot, this occurred in mid-September, while the harvest continued into October with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
The 2020 vintage yielded approximately 11,500 750 ml bottles.
WINEMAKING
Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for approximately 30 days, with frequent punch-downs and pump-overs to achieve a rich extraction of polyphenols. The entire process was closely monitored through daily checks and tastings.
The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak barriques, 50% of which were new.
Bottling took place in March 2023.
TASTING NOTES
In the glass, it displays an intense ruby colour with bright violet highlights. The nose reveals notes of dark fruit, while the palate is rich and structured, with dense, silky tannins perfectly integrated into the fruit profile, suggesting remarkable ageing potential.
