Carla 6 2012
Carla 6 comes from Giampaolo’s and his friend and advisor Stephane Derenouncourt’s desire to compete and confront themselves with a vine among the most difficult and unruly: the Sangiovese. Deriving exclusively from vineyard No. 6: a unique substrate of grey shale and sand, which gives the wine great minerality and splendid notes of graphite. A pure Sangiovese vinified and aged singularly in French oak barrels.
THE 2012 VINTAGE
100% Sangiovese
The years 2009 and 2010 were the first two with a separate vinification of the central portion of vineyard No. 6. Both trials did not provide convincing outcomes, and a third attempt with the 2011 harvest was indispensable in order convince Giampaolo and Stephane to begin bottling the new 100% Sangiovese wine. The project continued with the 2012 harvest, that, thanks to the suitable climactic conditions, allowed to realize a high-quality end product.
VINIFICATION
The year 2012 was vinified entirely in the new cellar. The experience gained from the previous vintage allowed us to carry out the proven vinification protocols to our best capability. A rigorous selection of bunches and berries on two sorting tables took place. The fermentation occurred in the absence of additional selected yeasts, and was carried out in conical stainless steel truncated tanks during which pumping and punching tasks were carried out. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, of which 30% were new, for a period of 14 months. Carla 6 continued its elevage in a cement tank for another six months before being bottled in July 2014.
The wine aged one full year inside its bottle before being released.
The 2012 vintage produced around 4,000 bottles.
