La Massa 2021
“La Massa” embodies the strong identity of the rugged territory of Panzano, elegantly dressed in our winemaking personality. The freshness and minerality of Sangiovese, skilfully blended with the opulence and nobility of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, allow this wine to convey our idea of joy and happiness.

50% Sangiovese
25% Cabernet Sauvignon
25% Merlot, Petit Verdot and Alicante Bouschet
The 2021 vintage presents an intriguing profile, shaped by a unique climatic pattern. The year began with a mild and dry winter, followed by unusually warm temperatures that led to early budbreak in the vines. This development was unfortunately interrupted by a sudden return of cold weather, which caused some damage to the new shoots. Spring, however, brought a period of significant rainfall, while temperatures continued to rise steadily until mid-June. The summer, which was very hot and dry, provided ideal conditions for vegetative growth and bunch development, culminating in a harvest known for its polyphenolic richness.
The harvest took place at the end of September for Merlot, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were picked by mid-October.
The 2021 vintage produced approximately 120,000 750 ml bottles.
WINEMAKING
The wine from this vintage was vinified in stainless steel, following a meticulous selection process that involved two sorting tables to ensure the highest quality.
It was then aged for 12 months in a combination of French barriques, 20% of which were new, and tonneaux. For this particularly concentrated and rich vintage, élevage continued in tank for a further 12 months.
Bottling took place in a single batch in January 2024.
TASTING NOTES
The 2021 vintage is characterized by a complex nose offering dark cherry and plum fruit, complemented by new leather, tobacco, licorice, mocha, and spice. On the palate, it presents a medium to full body with layered, dense flavors and a velvety tannin texture, culminating in a lingering and satisfying aftertaste.
