La Massa 2016

“La Massa” embodies the strong identity of the rugged territory of Panzano, elegantly dressed in our winemaking personality. The freshness and minerality of Sangiovese, skilfully blended with the opulence and nobility of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, allow this wine to convey our idea of joy and happiness.

65% Sangiovese

25% Merlot

10% Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante B.

The 2016 vintage began with pleasant temperatures in early April, which encouraged budbreak in the vines and marked the beginning of a new adventure. At the end of April, however, temperatures dropped sharply and abundant rainfall occurred, slowing down vine development. During the months of May and June, the climactic conditions returned to normal, with temperatures gradually increasing. Regular rainfalls went hand-in-hand with the vegetative development, allowing for the creation of a good land water resource to overcome the heat of the summer without it being excessively stressful. The summer rolled around during July and August, with a sharp increase in average temperatures and no rainfall. The warm and dry climate, together with a good level of humidity still present in the soil, permitted the vine plant to complete the growth and the veraison of the bunches seamlessly. The ripening of the fruit continued regularly until harvest, thanks to the bright and sunny days, as well as the cool and dry nights, present at end of the summer season. Once the mid-September rainfall re-hydrated the grapes and re-established balance between the various organoleptic components, we started the harvest of La Massa 2016. Various parcels of Merlot and Alicante were harvested by the end of the month, followed by the harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese during the first few weeks of October.

The 2016 vintage produced around 120,000 bottles

The year 2016 was vinified entirely in the new cellar. Subsequently, the wines were aged in French oak barrels, 10% of which were new, where they managed to embody and intensify the characteristic notes of the vintage and of our terroir.

Bottling took place in a single occasion commencing July 2018.
