La Massa 2015
“La Massa” embodies the strong identity of the rugged territory of Panzano, elegantly dressed in our winemaking personality. The freshness and minerality of Sangiovese, skilfully blended with the opulence and nobility of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, allow this wine to convey our idea of joy and happiness.
THE 2015 VINTAGE
60% Sangiovese
25% Merlot
15% Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante B.
The 2015 vintage was one to remember, thanks to its favourable weather conditions. The mild and rainy winter brought temperatures below freezing, while spring was characterized by sunny and dry days, allowing for regular budbreak. Summer was warm, especially in July, which is now remembered as one of the hottest months of the last century. August, thanks to three abundant rainfalls and a drop in temperatures, allowed the vines to recover physiologically and the grapes to continue ripening regularly. The cool temperatures during September and October allowed for progressive and even ripening up to harvest. These climatic conditions, together with careful vineyard management, made it possible to obtain perfectly healthy grapes, with excellent aromatic quality and phenolic ripeness. The Merlot harvest took place during the first half of September, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet and the earliest parcels of Sangiovese during the second half of September. In the first days of October, the last parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were harvested.
The 2016 vintage produced around 120,000 bottles
WINEMAKING
The 2015 vintage was vinified entirely in the new winery. The wines were then aged in French oak barriques, 10% of which were new, thus enhancing the distinctive notes of the vintage and of our terroir.
Bottling took place in a single batch starting from June 2017.
