Giorgio Primo 2018
The “Grand Vin”, born from a deep passion for Bordeaux grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot are meticulously selected from individual plots characterised by clay- and schist-rich soils with a high mineral content. It represents the estate’s most prestigious and authentic expression of its unique terroir.
2018 VINTAGE
55% Cabernet Sauvignon
40% Merlot
5% Petit Verdot
The beginning of 2018 was marked by a true winter, with sub-zero temperatures allowing the vines to enter a much-needed period of dormancy. April was warmer than average, while May brought persistent rainfall, requiring careful monitoring to prevent infections on the new shoots. At the same time, this rainfall ensured adequate water reserves in the soil ahead of the summer months.
June and July brought progressively higher temperatures, with occasional rainfall supporting steady and balanced vine growth. In August, rainfall in the middle of the month was followed by a rise in temperatures, while cooler nights helped preserve the grapes’ excellent aromatic qualities.
The harvest began with Merlot on 10 September and was completed on 10 October.
The 2018 vintage yielded approximately 18,000 750 ml bottles.
WINEMAKING
Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks for approximately 30 days, with frequent punch-downs and pump-overs to achieve a rich extraction of polyphenols. The entire process was closely monitored through daily checks and tastings.
The wine was aged for 16 months in French oak barriques, 55% of which were new.
Bottling took place in September 2020.
